Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder

The NHS defines the bipolar disorder as a mental condition where you have massive mood changes. In this regard you have episodes where you are extremely happy and others when you are really depressed. Moods can last for days, weeks and even months.  People with the bipolar disorder need a therapist to support them navigate the condition.

Getting help

It is important to consult your doctor if you have massive mood swings that interfere with your day to day activities and your relationships. When your doctor has assessed your situation they are likely to refer you to mental health services where further assessments will be done by a specialist. The specialist will ask about your family history, your lifestyle and your health. It may take time for diagnosis to occur because bipolar does not affect everyone the same way. The signs and symptoms of bipolar are also similar to other mental conditions so it may take time diagnose.

Although bipolar cannot be cured, it can be managed through treatments that your specialist creates for you. Treatments can include medicine to help stabilise your moods and talking therapies. Some medicines may have side effects depending on how your body reacts. However you will get support from your doctor or therapists through the journey. You should communicate with your doctor if treatment does not seem to be working. Some people also get extra support from private accredited therapists like Welinq and  Online-Therapy.com

Life Style

A good and healthy lifestyle can help improve your mood as you get support from your therapist. It’s important to eat healthy and to exercise. You can try establishing routines and getting enough rest. Managing or avoiding stress would be great for you. This might mean getting a less stressful job or just being mindful of your work hours.  It would be good to avoid too much alcohol or caffeinated drinks. Do not smoke or drink excessively. These lifestyle changes can help you manage the bipolar disorder.
